From my work at legal clinics, I am often asked about the 'strongest' ground for a divorce by unhappy wives. When I tell them there is only one ground for a divorce in Singapore, they are surprised. I hope that this article will clear common misunderstandings about divorce laws in Singapore.
I wrote a MacDivorce article in April 2008 where I explained the term as something I coined to describe what I regarded as a fuss-free way to divorce. This article is an updated version as there are new rules put in place to make the process even easier now.
“MacDivorce” is a term I coined to describe what I regard as the “best” way to divorce (if there is such a thing as a “best” way for such a traumatic and stressful experience). It is the best because as the title suggests, it is fuss free, quick and thus low cost, kind of like having a meal at a fast food joint. As the premise for MacDivorce is the consensual understanding of both spouses, it is therefore the least painful.
